In case you haven’t heard, today President Obama and Vice President Biden named Lynn Rosenthal to the newly created position of White House Advisor on Violence Against Women.
I know of her through her work at the National Network to End Domestic Violence, where I’m on the board, and she’s extremely well regarded in the field – sort of like Joe Torre in baseball. She’s built effective domestic violence prevention programs at the local, state, and national levels. She knows how to run an organization and has a long history of getting things done. Having this woman in a key White House advisory role means that new public policy measures that address domestic violence stand a good chance of being made into effective programs at the ground level. This is a tremendous lift for domestic violence advocates and certainly for families hurt by this horrible issue.
I applaud you for your great effort in this noble cause to help women in need across the board. It is a relief to know that there is hope out there for the most vulnerable women. Helping domestic violence victims not only helps the women but children associated in these homes. I am glad to know that white house has taken note of this important issue and doing something about it.
