We were ranked among the top 10 for our long-standing support for military personnel.
Verizon sponsored a Global Veterans' Career Expo in November aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City.
April 30, 2012: Verizon has been named to the Military Times EDGE "Best for Vets 2012: Employers" list, in recognition of the company's military recruiting and hiring practices. Verizon was ranked among the top 10. This is the latest recognition for our long-standing commitment to recruiting, hiring and supporting military veterans and their families.
Military Times EDGE surveyed more than 1,000 major companies and top government contractors about their recruiting and hiring policies, social recognition for veterans and pay and benefits for reservists.
Our policies and programs help veterans get in the door and feel welcome once they’re here. Here are just a few reasons we made the list:
Verizon helps employees who are married to active duty members find jobs within the company near where their spouses are assigned
The Veterans Advisory Board, an employee resource group, provides recognition, mentoring and other support for employees who are veterans
An upcoming Leadership Development Program for interns who are veterans
A U.S. Military Skill matcher on our military career website lets job-seeking veterans enter their branch of service and specialty code to find openings that match their unique background, education and experience: Verizon hired approximately 550 last year alone
Our Emergency Military Leave allows employees to continue serving their country while working at Verizon: When an employee who is in the Reserves or National Guard is activated in support of international anti-terrorism and peace-keeping operations, Verizon pays, for up to 36 months, the difference in the employee's Verizon base pay and military base pay, and continues health care and other benefits for the same period. And over the past decade, nearly 1,650 employees have been called up to active duty, and Verizon has been there to provide benefits and protect their employment.
