The new industry-standard rating system is a simple, trustworthy guide to finding age-appropriate apps.
Are you confused by all the various rating systems to help you find the best mobile content for your family? Verizon Wireless aims to help by being the first mobile provider to fully adopt a new industry-standard mobile apps rating system.
The new CTIA Mobile Application Rating System with ESRB aims to provide consistent ratings throughout participating mobile app stores across the industry. It uses the ESRB ratings that parents know and trust – the same age-based system used to rate kid’s video games. The new ratings apply to all apps, including legacy apps, in the Verizon Apps store on Android and RIM devices.
App listings in the Verizon Apps store display the ESRB age rating category, identified via a rating symbol, which suggests the age appropriateness.
The chart below shows how the new ESRB ratings works with the ratings used with Verizon’s free Content Filters. When you select a Verizon rating filter, the corresponding ESRB Age Ratings will be applied to the apps allowed on the device.
More information how to use the new rating system is available on the Verizon Wireless Content Filters page, the press release, and the Growing Wireless website. Information on all Verizon Wireless parental control and usage features is available on the Verizon Wireless Safeguards page.
