The Verizon Foundation is our philanthropic entity. In 2006, the foundation awarded more than $69.4 million in grants to charitable and nonprofit agencies, and more than $400 million since 2000. Our major initiatives focus on:
- Supporting literacy and K-12 education for children and adults;
- Enhancing safety by preventing domestic violence and improving healthcare through technology; and
- Encouraging employee volunteerism.

Thinkfinity is the cornerstone of Verizon Foundation’s Education and Literacy efforts, and its website provides more than 55,000 free, authoritative classroom lesson plans and online resources spanning every K-12 academic discipline.
HopeLine and Domestic Violence Prevention

Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program collects, refurbishes and re-uses cell phones to provide free phones and service to domestic violence victims. Since 2001, the company has collected more than 3.5 million phones, awarded more than $3 million in cash grants to domestic violence agencies and organizations, and distributed more than 40,000 phones to be used by victims of domestic violence.

In 2006, Verizon employees and retirees donated more than 600,000 hours of service and, with the Verizon Foundation, contributed $28.4 million in combined matching gift funds, making Verizon Volunteers one of the largest corporate volunteer incentive programs in the United States.
